267 IIM Bangalore Alumni Raise Rs 20.11 Lakh for Injured Student in Just Hours

Bengaluru, Sept 29 : When an IIM Bangalore student was seriously injured in a road accident, an appeal for financial assistance to the institute’s alumni community received an overwhelming response, with 267 alumni contributing Rs 20.11 lakh within hours.

The appeal, circulated on the morning of September 25, sought Rs 18 lakh to support the injured student’s treatment and recovery. The target was achieved within just two hours, while the campaign eventually raised more than Rs 20 lakh.

Alumni from different batches and generations came forward to support the cause. While many contributed financially, others helped by circulating the appeal, personally contacting fellow alumni and mobilising support through their professional and personal networks.

Harish Mittal (PGP ’88), President of the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore Alumni Association (IIMBAA), said the response reflected the strength of the alumni community.

“I am proud to see IIMBAA becoming a real community, one where people come together to help each other when it matters. Because ultimately, that is what a community does. A community cares,” he said.

The campaign not only met its Rs 18 lakh target but exceeded it by more than Rs 2 lakh, with a total of Rs 20.11 lakh raised through contributions from 267 alumni.

IIMBAA expressed its gratitude to everyone who contributed to the campaign, shared the appeal or reached out to fellow alumni to mobilise support.

The Association also acknowledged the support extended by Prof Dinesh Kumar, Director-in-charge, IIM Bangalore; Prof Manaswini Bhalla; Prof Rajluxmi Vaish Murthy; and IIMBAA Vice Presidents Dr Rajbir Singh (PGP ’92) and Saravan Krishna M (YLP ’20).

For the injured student and the family, the campaign represented more than financial assistance. It demonstrated how alumni from different batches, generations and professional backgrounds could come together within hours in response to a fellow student’s need.

The initiative has once again highlighted the sense of solidarity within the IIM Bangalore community, with 267 alumni turning the institution’s spirit of community into tangible support during a time of crisis.
