PM Modi Hails Teachers’ Contribution to Society, Pays Tribute to Dr Radhakrishnan

NEW DELHI, SEPT 5: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday highlighted the vital role of teachers in shaping society and paid tribute to former President and eminent educationist Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on the occasion of Teachers’ Day.

In a post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said Teachers’ Day was an occasion to recognise the strong contribution of teachers to society and to pay homage to Dr S. Radhakrishnan.

“Teachers’ Day is about appreciating the strong contribution of teachers to our society. It is also a day to pay homage to Dr. S. Radhakrishnan,” he said.

Sharing glimpses of his interaction with the winners of the National Teachers’ Awards at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, PM Modi said, “Here is what happened when the National Teachers’ Awards winners were invited to 7, LKM yesterday.”

Teachers’ Day is observed across India on September 5 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, India’s first Vice-President and second President. A distinguished philosopher, scholar and educationist, Dr Radhakrishnan made significant contributions to education and public life.

The National Teachers’ Awards, instituted in 1958, honour meritorious teachers for their outstanding contributions to education and their role in transforming the lives of students. Administered by the Ministry of Education, the awards are traditionally presented on Teachers’ Day.

The interaction between the Prime Minister and National Teachers’ Award winners has become a regular feature around Teachers’ Day, providing an opportunity to recognise educators whose contributions extend beyond the classroom.

During earlier interactions with award-winning teachers, PM Modi has emphasised the importance of nurturing curiosity among students, celebrating India’s cultural diversity in schools and familiarising children with the achievements of individuals working at the grassroots level.

The Prime Minister’s Teachers’ Day message placed teachers at the centre of the country’s efforts to nurture young minds, encourage curiosity and prepare a generation capable of contributing meaningfully to India’s future.
