New Delhi, Oct 24 : Renowned physicist Dr Ashoke Sen, Infosys Madhava Chair Professor in Bengaluru, has become the first Indian physicist to receive the prestigious Oskar Klein Medal for 2026.

The Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India congratulated Prof. Sen on the achievement, recognising his outstanding contributions to the field of theoretical physics.

Prof. Sen is internationally acclaimed for his pioneering research in string theory, particularly his contributions to S-duality, the precise counting of black hole entropy and string field theory. His work has significantly advanced modern string theory and enhanced scientific understanding of fundamental physics.

The Oskar Klein Medal is jointly awarded by Stockholm University and the Nobel Committee for Physics of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences to recognise distinguished contributions to the field of physics.

This latest honour adds to Prof. Sen's impressive list of achievements, which includes the Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics in 2012, the Dirac Medal in 2014, the Padma Shri in 2001 and the Padma Bhushan.
