Bengaluru, Oct 12 : JD(S) MLA GT Devegowda's public praise for former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and incumbent Chief Minister DK Shivakumar during the inauguration of Mysuru Dasara has reignited speculation about his strained ties with the JD(S) leadership and his political plans ahead of the 2028 Karnataka Assembly elections.

In a politically significant address, Devegowda described Siddaramaiah as the “son of Mysuru” and praised his eight-year tenure as Chief Minister, highlighting the people-oriented programmes introduced during his leadership.

He also referred to Shivakumar as the “son-in-law of Mysuru” and welcomed the continuation of welfare initiatives associated with Siddaramaiah's government.

The remarks have drawn attention amid persistent speculation about Devegowda's differences with the JD(S) leadership, particularly Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy, who has been a vocal critic of the Congress government.

Devegowda has publicly expressed dissatisfaction with his party and has reportedly stayed away from several party activities. His repeated appreciation of Siddaramaiah, including at an earlier Dasara event, has further fuelled discussions about his political positioning within the JD(S).

His latest remarks have raised questions about whether he will continue with the regional party or explore other political options as Karnataka's political landscape gradually takes shape ahead of the 2028 Assembly elections.

The situation has also drawn attention because of his son's continued involvement in the JD(S), potentially adding a family dimension to the political developments.

However, Devegowda has not announced any decision to quit the JD(S) or join the Congress. His praise for the two Congress leaders does not, by itself, indicate a shift in political allegiance.

The significance of his remarks lies in their timing and setting. Speaking at a prominent public event in Mysuru in the presence of Shivakumar, Devegowda chose to acknowledge both the former and the incumbent Chief Minister, once again bringing his relationship with the JD(S) leadership under scrutiny as political parties begin preparing for the next electoral contest.
