Bengaluru, Oct 15 : The INDIA bloc is set to intensify its campaign against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, with opposition parties scheduled to meet in Bengaluru on Friday to discuss alleged exclusion of eligible voters, protection of voting rights and coordinated political and legal action.

The state-level meeting, convened by the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), will bring together representatives of several opposition parties to formulate a joint strategy on electoral roll revision and address concerns over electoral transparency.

The meeting will be held under the leadership of state Congress president B K Hariprasad, with representatives of the CPI(M), CPI, CPI(ML) Liberation, All India Forward Bloc and the Samajwadi Party, among other parties, expected to participate, the KPCC said in a press release on Thursday.

The deliberations will focus on allegations that eligible voters have been excluded from electoral rolls and concerns regarding the functioning of the Election Commission of India. The participating parties are expected to explore ways to raise these issues through political mobilisation, legal intervention and public awareness campaigns.

The meeting assumes significance as opposition parties seek greater scrutiny of the electoral roll revision process and safeguards to ensure that eligible citizens are not denied their right to vote.

INDIA bloc leaders are expected to discuss mechanisms for documenting complaints, coordinating responses and taking up alleged irregularities with the appropriate authorities. Strengthening coordination among constituent parties at the state, district and grassroots levels will also be a key agenda item.

The parties are likely to plan joint voter outreach programmes and awareness campaigns to help citizens verify their electoral registration details and report discrepancies through prescribed channels.

The meeting comes amid a wider political debate over electoral roll revisions and the Election Commission's role in ensuring free and fair elections. While opposition parties have expressed concerns over the possible exclusion of eligible voters, allegations of wrongful deletions would need to be verified against official electoral records.

The outcome of Friday's meeting is expected to shape the INDIA bloc's campaign in Karnataka, including its proposed public outreach initiatives and approach to complaints concerning electoral rolls.

The KPCC said the meeting would focus on protecting voting rights and ensuring transparency in the electoral process.
