Chennai, September 23 : Expressing shock over the alleged sexual abuse of minor girls from poor families in Chennai, allegedly involving industrialist Veeramani of Gem Granites, PMK President and Rajya Sabha MP Anbumani Ramadoss on Wednesday urged the Tamil Nadu government to ensure that all those responsible are brought to justice and face stringent punishment.

In a statement, Anbumani said reports emerging about the alleged abuse of minor girls were deeply shocking and condemned attempts allegedly made in the past to help the accused evade legal action despite evidence reportedly being available.

He said it was particularly distressing that the alleged abuse had continued for several decades and that, despite evidence being submitted to the police as early as October 6, 2025, sustained action was not taken.

According to Anbumani, the police had subsequently approached the Chennai POCSO Special Court on February 18, 2026, seeking permission to drop the case on the grounds of insufficient evidence. The court reportedly declined to accept the request, following which several people connected with the case were arrested.

Anbumani commended the Chennai POCSO Court for its role in ensuring that the case was pursued and justice was sought for the affected children.

Demanding stringent action against everyone involved, irrespective of their status, he said separate cases should be registered not only against those accused of sexually abusing the girls but also against those who allegedly aided or abetted the offences and those who attempted to bring the investigation to a premature closure.

He also called for the scope of the investigation to be expanded and expedited so that all persons found responsible are brought before the law.

Anbumani further said that, depending on the findings of the investigation, relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act should be invoked or strengthened wherever necessary.
