MYSURU, OCT 12: Actor and choreographer Prabhu Deva returned to Mysuru Dasara after a gap of five to six years, describing the festival as a homecoming and expressing happiness over being part of the celebrations.

Accompanied by his mother, who hails from Mysuru, Prabhu Deva arrived in the city ahead of the inauguration of Yuva Dasara on October 13.

“Dasara is always special. It feels like coming home and attending a family function. I am very happy to be here,” he told reporters.

The actor said he had wanted to attend the festival for several years but could not make it due to various reasons. This time, however, he was determined not to miss the opportunity.

Describing the festive atmosphere as “superb”, Prabhu Deva thanked the organisers for inviting him to participate in the celebrations. He also praised their efforts in conducting the large-scale festival systematically over the years and expressed confidence that this year's events would be organised smoothly.

Prabhu Deva is scheduled to inaugurate Yuva Dasara on October 13. One of the major attractions of the annual Mysuru Dasara festivities, the event draws large numbers of young people and features entertainment programmes and performances.

Expressing his excitement about the event, the actor said he was looking forward to experiencing the enthusiasm and energy surrounding the celebrations.

During his stay in Mysuru, Prabhu Deva also plans to visit the Chamundeshwari Temple. He added that whenever he gets an opportunity, he usually visits a Shiva temple near his native village.

This year's Mysuru Dasara celebrates Karnataka's rich cultural diversity through programmes showcasing traditions from different regions of the state, including coastal Karnataka's traditional sport, Kambala.

Illuminations, food festivals and flower exhibitions are among the major attractions drawing visitors from across the country and abroad, adding to the festive spirit of the historic city.
