New Delhi, Oct 14 : Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday warned that those responsible for allegedly suppressing democratic voices would eventually face “strict justice”, naming Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar among those he accused of undermining democratic rights.

Speaking to the media, Rahul Gandhi said the day was approaching when those who suppressed the voice of democracy would be held accountable. He said his warning extended to everyone involved in alleged excesses, from the country's top political leadership to police personnel.

The Congress leader also urged students and young people who had faced police violence or unlawful detention to preserve video recordings, photographs and other evidence documenting their experiences.

“Videos or photographs will be essential,” he said, stressing that such material could help establish facts and support future accountability proceedings.

Reaffirming the Opposition's commitment to peaceful demonstrations, Rahul Gandhi said the right to protest was an essential democratic freedom that no government or authority should be allowed to take away.

“Peaceful protest is your right. We will not allow anyone to take it away,” he said.

His remarks come amid growing tensions between the Congress-led Opposition and the government over restrictions on demonstrations, the functioning of the Election Commission of India and the protection of constitutional rights.

Opposition parties have repeatedly alleged that police action and administrative restrictions are being used to prevent peaceful protests and suppress dissent. Authorities have disputed such allegations in various contexts.

Rahul Gandhi's appeal to young people to preserve photographic and video evidence indicates the Opposition's intention to document alleged police excesses and seek accountability. His warning also highlights the intensifying political confrontation over the right to dissent, the conduct of public authorities and the protection of democratic freedoms.
