Srinagar, Oct 23 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday invited people from across the country, as well as residents of Srinagar and neighbouring areas, to visit Bagh-e-Gul-e-Dawood, the city’s first exclusive chrysanthemum garden, and experience its floral beauty.

Inaugurating the garden for the second time, Omar said the initiative would help extend Kashmir’s tourism season by creating distinctive attractions beyond the peak tulip season. Developed by the Department of Floriculture, the garden aims to attract visitors during periods when fewer seasonal attractions are available.

Nestled against the Zabarwan mountains and overlooking the sparkling waters of Dal Lake, the terraced garden is located alongside Srinagar’s iconic Tulip Garden.

“Our effort to develop this garden has been to give a boost to our tourism season,” Omar said, urging visitors to explore the garden, take photographs and create lasting memories.

The Chief Minister noted that the garden had witnessed considerable development since its launch last year and said the government would continue to improve its appeal by introducing new features every year.

Highlighting its sustainability benefits, Omar said the garden’s planting material could be propagated and multiplied locally, unlike tulip bulbs, which need to be imported repeatedly.

“One major advantage of this garden is that, unlike the Tulip Garden, for which we repeatedly have to bring bulbs from outside the country, the plant material for Bagh-e-Gul-e-Dawood is our own. We propagate it and multiply it,” he said.

The garden is being developed as a seasonal floral destination to complement Kashmir’s established spring tourism attractions, encourage visitors to explore the region beyond the peak tulip season and strengthen the Valley’s tourism potential.
