Christchurch, Oct 23 : India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has been ruled out of the second T20 International against New Zealand due to a low-grade right adductor strain sustained during the series opener on Thursday.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the development in a statement, adding that Kishan’s recovery would be monitored.

Kishan was part of India’s historic victory in the opening T20I, where the visitors chased down their highest-ever target in men’s T20I cricket to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

Chasing a challenging target of 226 in Christchurch, India reached the target with four wickets in hand and two balls to spare.

Openers Sanju Samson (67) and Abhishek Sharma (29) provided a solid start, while Shreyas Iyer (42), Naman Dhir (42 not out) and Axar Patel (24) made valuable contributions to seal the memorable victory, according to the ICC.

The two teams will meet in the second T20I on Saturday at Hagley Oval in Christchurch, with New Zealand aiming to level the series and India looking to extend their lead.

India’s T20I squad: Shreyas Iyer (captain), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma, Axar Patel, Shivam Dube, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Naman Dhir, Prince Yadav, Mayank Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Varun Chakaravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav.
