Nashik, Oct 16 – The proposal to close the Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga temple to devotees for two months ahead of the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela has drawn opposition from the temple trust and the local priests' association, who have urged the administration to ensure that daily darshan continues alongside development works.

With around 10 months remaining for the Kumbh Mela in Nashik and Trimbakeshwar, infrastructure projects related to the mega religious event are being expedited. Amid concerns over possible delays, the Kumbh Mela Authority has reportedly proposed temporarily closing the temple to facilitate the timely completion of development works.

However, the Trimbakeshwar Temple Trust and the local priests' association have expressed their preference to keep the shrine open, maintaining that construction activities should proceed without disrupting the daily darshan of devotees.

They have reportedly conveyed to the administration that a temporary closure may not be necessary if adequate security arrangements are made and sufficient personnel are deployed to manage the expected rush of pilgrims.

The Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Authority is under pressure to complete the infrastructure projects within the stipulated timeframe ahead of the 2027 Kumbh Mela.

The proposed closure has posed a challenge for the administration. While shutting the temple could trigger resentment among local residents and devotees, keeping it open without adequate arrangements could hamper the progress of development work.

The temple trust has proposed strengthening security measures and deploying additional manpower to ensure that construction activities continue without affecting daily darshan.
