Bengaluru, Oct 30 : Himalayan Siddhaa Akshar, founder of Akshar Yoga Kendraa, has launched an international running and wellness initiative across eight countries, aiming to build a global community of fitness enthusiasts and bring 5,000 participants together for a mega event in Sydney in 2027.
Named Himalaya Runners, the initiative seeks to transform running into a mass-participation fitness movement by bringing together people of different age groups, fitness levels and sporting backgrounds. Guided by the philosophy 'Run, Grow, Beyond', the movement has established its presence in India, Australia, Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom, Taiwan, South Korea and the Philippines.
The initiative has already tested its community-based approach through the 'Keep Moving Challenge' in Australia and Japan. It is now preparing for its next challenge in December 2026, with plans to organise regular running activities across its international network.
The proposed mega international gathering in Sydney in 2027 will be a major milestone, with organisers targeting 5,000 participants, including runners, yoga practitioners and fitness enthusiasts from different parts of the world.
Explaining the vision behind the initiative, Akshar said the movement aims to remove the physical and psychological barriers that often discourage people from taking up running.
"Good health is one of the greatest strengths we can develop. Through Himalaya Runners, we want to inspire people to make running a part of their everyday lives, regardless of where they begin. Someone starting with just 500 metres can gradually build the endurance to run 5 or 10 kilometres, or even a marathon. Our vision is to bring people from different countries together through fitness, discipline and a shared commitment to healthier living," he said.
Unlike conventional programmes focused primarily on competitive running, Himalaya Runners encourages participants to progress gradually, starting with manageable distances such as 500 metres before advancing to 5 km, 10 km and longer-distance events.
The initiative also aims to integrate running with Himalayan Yoga and holistic wellness practices. While running helps improve stamina, strength and endurance, yoga, pranayama and meditation are intended to complement physical activity and support mental well-being.
The organisers plan to strengthen overseas chapters, facilitate participation in organised races and establish partnerships to expand community-level running activities.
Through the proposed Sydney gathering, Himalaya Runners aims to turn individual fitness efforts into a cross-border community movement, promoting healthier lifestyles, discipline and social participation through running.
