The Prime Minister said Kovind's long years in public life had been marked by a steadfast commitment to the development of India, the values enshrined in the Constitution and the welfare of the people.

Modi also praised Kovind for serving the nation with “passion and simplicity”, saying these qualities had earned the former President respect across different sections of society.
