Two Indian Tourists Die in Rafting Accident in Bhutan

Thimphu, Sep 25 : Two Indian tourists, a 60-year-old woman and a 68-year-old man, died after falling from a rafting boat in Bhutan’s Mochhu River, officials said.

The incident occurred when a massive wave hit the rafting boat near Yebisa village under Chhubu Gewog in Punakha district. Three people reportedly fell into the river, while another woman was rescued unharmed.

The two Indian tourists were rescued downstream and taken towards Punakha Hospital. However, they reportedly died while being transported to the hospital on the evening of September 24.

According to available information, 16 Indian regional tourists had travelled to the Yebisa area for rafting and boarded three rafting boats. The two deceased tourists were among those travelling in one of the boats.

The bodies of the deceased were handed over to their relatives and flown to Delhi on Friday morning, official sources said.

The two tourists were part of a group that was on a week-long tour of Bhutan.
