Bengaluru, Oct 16 : Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Friday welcomed the appointment of Dr Sudha Yadav as the state's second woman Governor and called for renewed cooperation between the state government and Raj Bhavan to advance public welfare.
Speaking at a reception for the new Governor and a farewell function for outgoing Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot at the Vidhana Soudha banquet hall here, Shivakumar acknowledged Gehlot's cooperation with the elected government during his five-year tenure.
"Although we may have troubled him on many issues, he supported the government and guided us towards improving the lives of the people," the Chief Minister said, thanking the outgoing Governor for his guidance and support.
Welcoming Dr Sudha Yadav, Shivakumar recalled that Karnataka's first woman Governor was Ramadevi and said the state was now looking forward to working with its second woman Governor.
"We have the opportunity to work with Dr Sudha Yadav. Let us work together with renewed enthusiasm," he said, adding that her taking oath on her birthday had made the occasion particularly special.
The Chief Minister also invited the new Governor to visit Mysuru during the state's Dasara celebrations, describing the festival as a reflection of Karnataka's rich cultural heritage and traditions.
Shivakumar said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had informed him over the telephone about Yadav's appointment. He had conveyed to them that the state government had accepted most of the decisions taken by the Governor, he added.
Highlighting Karnataka's contribution to the country, Shivakumar said the state continued to play a significant role in economic development, technology and good governance. He also noted that officials were working to strengthen administrative systems at the national and international levels.
Referring to Gehlot's tenure, the Chief Minister said the outgoing Governor had developed an understanding of Karnataka's governance, culture, traditions and people before handing over charge to Yadav.
Shivakumar thanked Gehlot for his cooperation and expressed hope that the new Governor's tenure would strengthen coordination between Raj Bhavan and the state government, with a shared focus on public welfare.
