RIYADH, Oct 6: Three people were injured after attacks targeted two airports in southern Saudi Arabia on Monday, causing damage to airport facilities, the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) said on Tuesday.
The attacks targeted King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Jazan and Najran International Airport, according to GACA. Emergency response teams and relevant authorities were immediately deployed and took action in accordance with established procedures.
GACA said the three injured people sustained minor injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment. The attacks also caused material damage to airport facilities.
The aviation authority said it was coordinating with security agencies to assess the extent of the damage and take necessary measures to protect passengers, airport employees and the Kingdom's civil aviation infrastructure.
GACA did not identify those responsible for the attacks.
Yemen's Houthi group, however, claimed on Monday that it had launched a series of missile and drone attacks against targets across Saudi Arabia. The group said it had targeted what it described as "sensitive sites" in Jazan and Najran.
The Houthis also claimed attacks on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Abha Airport, an Aramco refinery in Rabigh and several military installations.
Saudi Arabia condemned the attacks on civilian and economic infrastructure and accused the Houthis of seeking to escalate the conflict.
