ISLAMABAD, SEPTEMBER 18 : More than 15 people were killed and over 50 others injured when a car packed with explosives detonated near a mosque in Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, during Friday prayers, police said.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Chief Zulfiqar Hamid said the vehicle collided with the outer wall of the mosque compound before exploding. The blast created a large crater, damaged the mosque's exterior and caused part of a wall to collapse.

Police said personnel, their family members and other civilians were offering prayers at the mosque, located adjacent to police offices, when the explosion occurred.

Authorities also received reports of gunfire following the blast. The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has denied involvement in the attack.

Security forces and rescue teams reached the site and began relief and investigation operations.
