Kejriwal urges PM Modi to act against Parvesh Verma over alleged slapping incident

New Delhi, Sep 28 : Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Monday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take action against Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Verma over an alleged slapping incident involving a young man during a road inspection in Tilak Nagar.

Kejriwal said action against Verma and those allegedly responsible for irregularities in the road project would help the BJP connect with the country's Gen-Z population more than social media initiatives.

A video purportedly showing the September 27 incident surfaced on social media. It showed Verma pulling down a young man's mobile phone before allegedly slapping him during an altercation at the inspection site. Verma has disputed the allegations and claimed that AAP workers had abused his family.

In a video message, Kejriwal criticised PM Modi's efforts to engage with young people and said accountability over the incident would send a stronger message.

Referring to the road inspection, Kejriwal alleged that a newly constructed road in Tilak Nagar could be broken apart by hand and questioned the presence of Verma at the site.

He called on the Prime Minister to take action against Verma and investigate those allegedly involved in corruption related to the road project.

Kejriwal also alleged that the Delhi Police had been instructed to protect Verma, though he did not provide evidence for the claim.

He said young people expected honesty and accountability from political leaders and argued that action against the minister would demonstrate those values.

Verma has rejected the allegations surrounding the incident and maintained that AAP workers had made abusive remarks about his family.
