Hyderabad, Oct 26 : The Telangana unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday criticised Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge over his reported controversial remark, "Modi ka baap bhi jayega", made during a public event in Patna, accusing the Congress leadership of lowering the standards of political discourse through personal attacks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In a statement, BJP state chief spokesperson and media in-charge N V Subhash questioned whether the Congress had run out of political arguments and was now resorting to references involving the Prime Minister's family. He said political differences should be debated on issues such as governance, development and public welfare rather than through remarks targeting family members.

Subhash alleged that the Congress was frustrated by Modi's national and international stature and the public support he enjoyed. Instead of offering a credible political alternative and addressing people's concerns, the party was indulging in personal attacks, he charged.

The controversy erupted during Kharge's address at an event in Patna on Sunday, when an audience member reportedly interrupted him, saying that Modi would not leave office. Kharge responded with the controversial remark, triggering a commotion.

The person, identified as Santosh Kumar, later alleged that he was assaulted by Congress supporters.

The Congress defended Kharge, claiming that a BJP worker had first insulted the Congress president's late father. It also maintained that Kharge's remark referred to Modi's ideological association with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and not his biological father.

Kharge also criticised the RSS and BJP, stating that peace would remain elusive in the country as long as the RSS ideology continued to prevail, further escalating the political confrontation between the two parties.

Subhash said political leaders had a responsibility to maintain the dignity of public debate despite ideological differences. He urged the Congress to focus on governance, national development and issues affecting ordinary citizens instead of allowing political exchanges to deteriorate into personal attacks.
