MUMBAI, Sep 9 : Two persons sustained minor injuries after a 15-foot-tall Ganesh idol collapsed while being transported for Ganeshotsav near Sheetal Talao on LBS Road in Kurla West, police said on Wednesday.

The incident occurred late Tuesday evening when the idol, belonging to Om Shakti Mitra Mandal of Prem Nagar, Dharavi, was being transported from a workshop in Vidyavihar Bail Bazaar, V.B. Nagar, to Dharavi.

According to police, the trolley carrying the idol lost its balance while crossing a speed breaker near Sheetal Talao, causing the idol to topple onto the road. The idol was extensively damaged, triggering panic among devotees and onlookers.

The injured were identified as Santosh Jaiswal (28) and Rohit Jaiswal (25). One was taken to Kurla Bhabha Hospital, while the other was admitted to Habib Hospital. Both sustained minor injuries, received treatment and were later discharged.

Following the incident, representatives of the mandal, in coordination with police and the local administration, immersed the damaged idol at Sheetal Talao as per ritual.

The Vinoba Bhave Nagar police are investigating the incident.
