New Delhi, Oct 27 : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday accused the Congress of prioritising its political interests over national concerns, alleging that the Opposition party was indifferent to the problems of ordinary people and traders during the Diwali festive season.
Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan criticised the Congress-led INDIA bloc for proceeding with its November 1 rally at Ramlila Maidan, despite concerns raised by traders and the public.
"Congress has no concern for the joy of Diwali or the businesses of traders. It has nothing to do with the problems faced by the public," Chouhan said.
He alleged that the Congress was placing its political agenda above national interests and the country's economy.
According to Chouhan, traders want to continue their businesses during Diwali, allowing people to shop and celebrate the festival without disruption. However, he accused the Congress of stubbornly pursuing its political agenda.
"Congress is putting national interests aside and stubbornly sticking to its childish obstinacy," he said.
Meanwhile, the ruling BJP has announced a counter-campaign on November 1, coinciding with the INDIA bloc's 'Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao' rally.
Under the banner of 'Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy', the BJP plans to organise protests and 'padyatras' (foot marches) led by senior party leaders.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP president Nitin Nabin and chief ministers of BJP-ruled states are among the prominent leaders expected to participate in the campaign.
