Blast-Like Sound, Dense Smoke Trigger Alarm at MRPL Facility in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Sept 30: A blast-like sound followed by dense smoke from the premises of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) near Jokatte triggered concern among residents in surrounding areas on Wednesday.

People living near the major industrial complex reported hearing a loud sound resembling an explosion, shortly after which thick smoke was seen rising from the MRPL facility. The sound and smoke were reportedly visible and audible from a considerable distance.

However, there was no immediate official confirmation on whether the incident was caused by an explosion, a technical malfunction or any other activity within the refinery.
