Kalaburagi, Oct 31 : A four-year-old boy was mauled to death by a stray dog while playing outside his house in Kalaburagi city, raising fresh concerns over the growing stray dog menace and child safety in residential areas.
The deceased was identified as Manoj Pujari Jambaga, son of Sharanabasappa Pujari, a native of Jambaga village in Kalaburagi taluk. His father works as a watchman in the city, and the family resides in the Kotnur area.
The incident occurred on a street near Ganadevata Temple in the Dariyapur area, where the child was playing when a stray dog suddenly attacked him. He sustained severe bite injuries and scratches and was immediately rushed to a hospital by his family. However, he succumbed to his injuries despite medical treatment.
The incident has once again highlighted the growing number of stray dog attacks on children in Kalaburagi and neighbouring areas.
In a similar incident last month, a four-year-old girl, Saanvi, was attacked by a pack of stray dogs while playing outside her house in Meenahabal village of Sedam taluk. She suffered deep injuries to her face, lips and cheeks and required stitches at the Sedam Government Hospital.
In another incident earlier this year, a four-year-old boy, Gopal, was attacked by a dog in Maliabad locality of Raichur city, sustaining serious injuries to his scalp.
The recurring incidents have sparked anxiety among residents, who allege that the stray dog population is increasing and that children are no longer safe playing outside their homes.
Residents have urged the district administration and civic authorities to take immediate steps to control the stray dog population and prevent further attacks and loss of lives.
