Panchkula, Oct 25 : Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday strongly criticised Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge over his controversial remarks referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's father, accusing the Congress of repeatedly crossing the boundaries of political decency out of frustration.
Reacting to Kharge's comments made during a public programme in Patna, Saini said Congress leaders had earlier insulted the Prime Minister's mother and were now making objectionable remarks about his father.
"First, they insulted the revered mother of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and now they have made an indecent remark about his father. In their desperation for power, Congress leaders are crossing all limits of decency," Saini said in a post on X.
The controversy erupted during an event in Patna on Sunday to mark the birth anniversary of Bihar's first Chief Minister, Krishna Singh. According to reports, while Kharge was addressing the gathering, a person interrupted him, saying that Modi would not go anywhere. Kharge's response, which referred to the Prime Minister's father, triggered a political controversy.
Condemning the remarks, Saini said political differences should not be used as an excuse to make personal attacks against the family members of elected representatives. He accused the Congress leadership of allowing political frustration to overshadow the dignity expected in public discourse.
"The frustrated Congress and its president Mallikarjun Kharge must understand that the people of this country are absolutely clear about their faith in Modi's leadership," Saini said.
The Haryana Chief Minister further asserted that the people's mandate was supreme in a democracy and that electoral outcomes, rather than political arrogance, determined the course of governance.
"Remember, in a democracy, it is not arrogance but the people's mandate that is supreme. The people will respond to the insulting politics of Congress," he said.
