KALABURAGI, Oct 10 : A police constable in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi district has been suspended after a video purportedly showing him consuming alcohol on the rooftop of a mosque while on duty went viral on social media, police said on Saturday.
The constable, identified as Hanumanth, is attached to Mahagaon police station and was deployed to maintain law and order following a dispute in Harsuru village in Kamalpur taluk.
According to reports, some villagers allegedly spotted the constable consuming alcohol on the mosque rooftop and recorded the incident. The video subsequently circulated on social media, prompting the police department to initiate a preliminary inquiry.
The initial investigation confirmed that the constable had consumed alcohol, following which Kalaburagi Superintendent of Police Adduru Srinivasulu ordered his suspension, the reports said.
The incident has raised concerns over police conduct, particularly as the constable had been deployed to maintain peace in a sensitive situation.
