New Delhi, Oct 30: In a strong endorsement of Indian boxing, Union Sports Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya has reaffirmed the Government's full confidence in Boxing Federation of India (BFI) President Ajay Singh, emphasising its commitment to taking Indian boxing to greater heights ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
The Minister made the remarks during a meeting attended by former World Boxing President Boris van der Vorst and BFI President Ajay Singh. He noted that the Government was focused on results and that Indian boxing had delivered excellent performances in recent years.
Sharing his thoughts on the meeting in an Instagram post, van der Vorst described the interaction as inspiring and highlighted the Government's strong backing for the BFI and its boxers.
He said Mandaviya had expressed firm support for Ajay Singh and the Boxing Federation of India, assuring them that the Government and the country's 1.4 billion people stood firmly behind Indian boxing.
Van der Vorst also highlighted the tremendous progress made by Indian boxing in recent years and its emergence as a major force on the international stage. The historic medal hauls at the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, he said, had strengthened confidence in India's talent, determination and potential to achieve Olympic success.
However, he stressed that potential alone would not be enough to secure success at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. Athletes, coaches, federations, the Government and the entire boxing community must work together towards the common goal.
Quoting the Sports Minister, van der Vorst said, "Let's make sure that when Indian boxers step into the ring in 2028, they know that an entire nation and a united boxing community are standing firmly behind them."
He expressed optimism about the future of Indian boxing, saying the time had come to translate the country's growing potential into Olympic glory.
