Jammu, Oct 22 : A nearly 40-kilometre stretch of the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway between Pathankot and Dayalachak is expected to open by December this year, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh said on Thursday.
In a post on X, Singh said the new stretch would bypass the Lakhanpur toll plaza and significantly reduce travel time between Pathankot and Dayalachak.
The journey, which currently takes around 50 to 70 minutes, is expected to be reduced to just 25 to 30 minutes, providing a major boost to connectivity in the region.
Describing the development as a significant step towards improving ease of travel, Singh said enhanced road infrastructure remained a key focus of the Narendra Modi government.
Once completed, the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway is expected to reduce the distance between Delhi and Katra from 727 kilometres to 588 kilometres. The travel time is projected to come down from around 14 hours to six hours.
The expressway is expected to strengthen road connectivity between Delhi, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir, while facilitating faster and more convenient travel for pilgrims visiting Katra, the base camp for the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine.
