Three Arrested in Golasanagi ATM Theft Case

₹19.29 lakh stolen; ₹3.60 lakh cash, five ATM cassettes and getaway car seized

KOLHAR, Sept. 11: Police have arrested three persons in connection with the theft of ₹19.29 lakh from a Canara Bank ATM at Golasanagi village, under the jurisdiction of Kudagi Police Station in Kolhar taluk. The accused were arrested on September 4 in Kanwan town of Dhar district in Madhya Pradesh.

The arrested have been identified as Sahil, son of Mehmood, 24, from Dhiranki village in Haryana’s Palwal district; Kamariyab, son of Sattar, 50, from Sapiyabad Lauti village under Mundali Police Station limits in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh; and Akash, son of Pradeep Tyagi, 27, from Bijoli village in Meerut district.

Police have recovered ₹3.60 lakh in cash, five ATM cassette boxes, a Mahindra Scorpio car allegedly used in the crime, a gas nozzle and screwdrivers from the accused. Some other suspects are still absconding, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest them.

ATM Broken Open Using Gas Cutter

The theft took place around 2.30 a.m. on September 2. The accused allegedly cut open the locks of the shutter of the Canara Bank ATM using a gas cutter and entered the premises. They then cut open the safe door of the ATM with the gas cutter and fled with ₹19.29 lakh in cash along with the ATM cassettes.

A case was registered at Kudagi Police Station under Crime No. 97/2026 under Sections 331(4) and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

Special Team Traces Accused

Taking the case seriously, Vijayapura Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbaragi constituted a special investigation team to trace the accused.

The investigation was conducted under the guidance of Vijayapura SP Laxman Nimbaragi and Basavana Bagewadi Deputy Superintendent of Police Chandrakant Nandareddy, and under the leadership of Nidagundi Circle Inspector Sharanagouda B. Goudar.

The team comprised Kudagi PSI Mallikarjun Talwar, Nidagundi PSI Yatish K.N., Basavana Bagewadi Additional PSI Sanjeev Tippareddy, Kolhar PSI Ashok Nayak and Crime Division PSI V.H. Hattalli, along with other police personnel.

The police team successfully traced and arrested the three accused. Further investigation is underway to apprehend the remaining suspects allegedly involved in the crime.

The police department has appreciated the efforts of the officers and personnel involved in the operation and has announced a reward for the members of the special team.
