AMRAVATI, SEPT 7: The tigress allegedly responsible for the deaths of three people in Maharashtra’s Amravati district over the past 11 days was captured by the Forest Department in Chandur Bazar tehsil on Monday, officials said.
According to officials, the Forest Department team successfully tranquilised and caged the tigress after an intensive search operation in the area.
Earlier on Monday afternoon, the tigress attacked a farmer working in a field near Shirjagaon Kasba. He later succumbed to his injuries.
Following the incident, the Forest Department intensified its search and tracking operation and eventually located the tigress in a farm at Shirjagaon Kasba, where it was tranquilised and taken into custody.
The tigress had allegedly killed 18-year-old Urmila Ivane of Sonori village on Sunday while she was cutting fodder in a field. Her death triggered panic and protests among local residents, who demanded immediate action from the authorities.
The animal had also reportedly been linked to earlier attacks on humans and livestock in the Morshi-Chandur Bazar belt.
Forest personnel, assisted by wildlife experts, used camera traps, drones and tracking teams to locate the tigress. After several days of intensive efforts, the animal was finally captured, bringing relief to villagers who had been living in fear.
Forest officials said the captured tigress would undergo a veterinary examination. Further action will be taken in accordance with wildlife conservation and management protocols, they added.
