BALLARI, Sept 8: Karnataka BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra on Tuesday alleged that the Congress government was exerting pressure on the Ballari district administration to deny permission for the concluding programme of the BJP’s ongoing padayatra in Ballari.

Speaking to reporters at Hale Daroji in Sandur, Vijayendra said the district administration appeared to be under pressure from the State government and was deliberately delaying permission for the event.

“I have received information that the authorities are hesitating to grant permission for the concluding programme. I will speak to the concerned officials,” he said.

Vijayendra maintained that the padayatra was being conducted peacefully and had attracted the attention of people across Karnataka and the country. He urged the administration not to succumb to political pressure.

“We are in a democratic system and everyone has the right to protest. This is a people’s movement,” he asserted.

Questioning the delay in granting permission, Vijayendra said, “Why will they not give permission? I will also see. They will have to give it.”

His remarks came amid the BJP’s efforts to hold the concluding programme of the padayatra in Ballari.
