Bengaluru, Oct 10 : Janata Dal (Secular) leader H D Kumaraswamy is reportedly making behind-the-scenes efforts to bring former party leaders who joined the Congress back into the Janata Parivar fold ahead of the 2028 Karnataka Assembly elections.

The reported move comes as the JD(S), which is aligned with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), seeks to strengthen its organisational base and consolidate its political position ahead of the next Assembly polls.

Several former JD(S) leaders, including legislators and former ministers who switched to the Congress, are reportedly reconsidering their political options amid discontent within the ruling party and uncertainty over the political scenario after 2028.

According to political sources, some leaders have already held discussions with Kumaraswamy at undisclosed locations. However, the identities of those involved and the details of the alleged meetings have not been independently confirmed.

A senior Congress leader who played a key role in building the JD(S) alongside former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda before joining the Congress is also reportedly considering a return to the regional party, along with his supporters and political associates.

The reported outreach is part of Kumaraswamy's efforts to consolidate the Janata Parivar and strengthen the JD(S) ahead of the Assembly elections. Some former party members are said to be reassessing their political prospects amid questions over the Congress's ability to retain power beyond 2028.

Kumaraswamy has previously maintained that the JD(S) doors remain open to leaders who left the party, indicating the possibility of a return for former members willing to rejoin the organisation.

Meanwhile, BJP state president B Y Vijayendra has also been making efforts to bring leaders together and address internal differences within his party as the NDA partners work to strengthen their organisational structures ahead of the elections.

The parallel political manoeuvres could influence the state's political equations, particularly if former JD(S) leaders return to the regional party. Such a development could have implications for both the Congress and the JD(S) as they prepare for the 2028 electoral contest.

However, the identities of the leaders involved, the status of the reported discussions and the possibility of a formal political realignment remain unclear.
