Bengaluru, October 10 (UNI): Karnataka Minister UT Khader on Saturday said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s initiative had inspired young people and citizens across the country to join protests against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the electoral process.
Reacting to the protests, Khader said Rahul Gandhi’s efforts had encouraged more political parties, including INDIA bloc allies and the CJP, to participate in the agitation.
“Rahul Gandhi ji’s initiative inspired youth and people across the country to join the fight, bringing more political parties, including INDIA bloc allies and the CJP, into the protest. This is a matter of public concern, and we must stand united,” Khader said.
The protests come amid growing Opposition criticism of the Election Commission of India over electoral transparency and accountability. Opposition parties have raised concerns about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleging that the exercise could lead to the exclusion of eligible voters.
The Opposition has questioned the Election Commission’s handling of the issue and demanded greater accountability from the CEC. Leaders have maintained that transparent voter-list preparation and the protection of every eligible citizen’s right to vote are essential to ensuring free and fair elections.
Rahul Gandhi has emerged as a prominent voice in the Opposition’s campaign, bringing electoral integrity into the centre of the political debate. Khader’s remarks highlighted the Congress’s efforts to mobilise young people and broaden public participation in the protests.
The Election Commission’s role in maintaining accurate electoral rolls and safeguarding the electoral process remains at the heart of the dispute, with Opposition parties continuing to press their concerns over the alleged irregularities.
