New Delhi, Oct 10 : The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has directed its affiliated schools across the country to organise Fit India Freedom Run events and encourage students, teachers and other stakeholders to participate in the nationwide fitness campaign, which will culminate in a Unity Run on October 31.
In a circular issued on October 9, the Board said the seventh edition of the Fit India Freedom Run 2026 is being organised across the country until October 31 to promote physical fitness, cleanliness and regular exercise.
The campaign encourages citizens, particularly young people, to include at least 30 minutes of physical activity in their daily routines under the slogan, "Fitness Ki Dose, Aadha Ghanta Roz".
CBSE has advised schools to organise Freedom Run activities during the campaign period, depending on their feasibility, and register the events on the official Fit India portal. Schools have also been asked to submit details of participants and the total kilometres covered during the activities.
Launched in 2020 under the Fit India Movement, the Fit India Freedom Run initiative aims to make physical activity an integral part of everyday life. Based on the concept of "Run Anywhere, Anytime", the campaign allows participants to take part at a location and time convenient to them.
According to the Board, the flexible format is intended to encourage wider community participation and make fitness activities accessible to people across different age groups.
The campaign will culminate in the Unity Run on October 31, marking the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, which is observed as National Unity Day. CBSE has urged schools to publicise the initiative among students, staff and other stakeholders to increase awareness and participation.
The circular has been sent to the heads of all CBSE-affiliated schools, with copies forwarded to educational organisations, including the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, Eklavya Model Residential Schools and the Sainik Schools Society.
It has also been circulated to the education authorities of Delhi and Chandigarh, as well as state and Union Territory education departments, for dissemination among schools under their respective jurisdictions.
CBSE regional directors and regional officers have been asked to communicate the instructions to affiliated schools in their respective regions.
