Maharashtra teacher gets life imprisonment for sexual assault of minor girl

Ratnagiri, Oct 24 : A special court in Chiplun has sentenced a teacher, Uday Namdev Velhal, to life imprisonment and imposed a fine on him in connection with the sexual assault of a minor girl in Guhagar taluka of Ratnagiri district.

The incident occurred in March 2020, when the victim was studying in Class II at a school in the taluka. Following the incident, the girl's mother lodged a complaint at the Guhagar police station.

Acting on the complaint, police launched an investigation and initiated legal proceedings against the accused teacher.

During the trial, the prosecution examined 10 witnesses to establish its case. Special Senior Public Prosecutor Pushparaj Shashikant Shetye represented the prosecution before the court.

After examining the evidence and witness testimonies, Judge D. B. Mhaltkar sentenced Velhal to life imprisonment and imposed a fine.

The verdict highlights the importance of safeguarding children against sexual abuse and ensuring their safety in educational institutions.
