New Delhi, Oct 22 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav Global Sammelan at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi at 1100 hours on October 23, marking the culmination of year-long celebrations commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Chinmaya Mission.

The three-day global summit, which will conclude on October 25, is expected to bring together more than 9,000 participants from India and abroad. Modi will address the gathering, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office on Thursday.

The summit will provide a platform for members of the Mission, spiritual practitioners and international participants to reflect on the organisation’s 75-year journey in spiritual education, cultural preservation, youth empowerment and community service.

Founded by Swami Chinmayananda in 1951, the Chinmaya Mission is a global spiritual organisation dedicated to disseminating the teachings of Vedanta and the Bhagavad Gita. Through its educational initiatives, cultural programmes and community-oriented activities, the Mission has worked to make India’s spiritual and philosophical traditions accessible to people across generations.

The year-long anniversary celebrations began last year when Modi released a Tamil versification of the Bhagavad Gita, produced by the Chinmaya Mission with music composed by renowned music director Ilaiyaraaja, at Gangaikonda Cholapuram in Tamil Nadu.

Several initiatives were subsequently organised in India and abroad to commemorate the Mission’s contribution to spiritual learning and the promotion of Indian philosophical thought. These included mass havans at multiple locations and the consecration of the Maa Soundarya Chinmayi Temple in Tripura.

A major initiative, Chinmaya Gita Samarpanam, brought together more than one lakh people from across the world for a collective online chanting of the 15th chapter of the Bhagavad Gita. The programme demonstrated the use of digital platforms to connect spiritual communities across geographical boundaries.

Another initiative, Gita Panchamrit, focused on five selected verses from the Bhagavad Gita, aiming to make the scripture’s philosophical teachings more accessible and highlight their relevance to contemporary life.

Youth participation was another key component of the anniversary celebrations. Fifteen young members of the Chinmaya Yuva Kendra undertook the Chinmaya Amrit Yatra, travelling more than 40,000 km across the country to spread the message of the Bhagavad Gita and engage with people in different regions.

The initiative highlighted the role of young people in carrying forward the Mission’s spiritual and educational work.

The three-day global gathering in the national capital will bring together members of the Chinmaya Mission and participants from different parts of the world to review its journey since its establishment and discuss its continuing contributions to education, culture and social service.

The event will mark the culmination of the year-long commemorative programmes celebrating 75 years of the Mission’s efforts to disseminate Vedantic philosophy and the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita in India and across the world.
